Welcome to RFAK.org - Raising Food Allergic Kids! It is very intimidating when your child is first diagnosed with a food allergy. There is so much in the news lately about the exploding food allergy problem that when you suddenly are faced with the reality that your child is allergic you can quickly become overwhelmed. The hardest part, I have found, is sifting through huge amounts of (often conflicting) information and boiling it down to workable solutions for everyday life. So, here you will find several different areas that will hopefully help you keep your food allergic kids safe while still allowing them to be kids!

Isn't March that month that's supposed to be all about lions and lambs and such?  I fear March in our household is going to be all roar and no cute, fluffy bleating.  The list includes two major medical milestones (ok, hurdles) for Caroline, one for me, and a big birthday bonanza.

Who We Are

I am a mom...

I am a mom of a food allergic kid, namely Caroline. I am not a medical doctor, a nutritionist or specialist in anything other than being a mom who works very hard to give my child the best possible life while keeping her safe. I started this site in the hopes of helping other parents out there who are suddenly faced with the reality of raising a child with serious food allergies. I am a research nut and I do all the work of figuring out the best way to live a normal life with my food allergic kid, so I want to share that with you. Please read our legal disclaimer and remember that, of course, the safety of your kids rests ultimately with you. We are here to help share our experiences in the hope that it can make your life and the life of your food allergic kid easier.  You're not alone in this new fight.

Why RFAK is different

Why RFAK is Different

There are a handful of sites out there dealing with food allergies and kids with food allergies.  I've been to most of them and I link to several that I like in our links section.  However, what I have found most frustrating in our journey with dealing with food allergies, and now asthma, is the amount of conflicting information out there.  Even the scientists and doctors can't agree on what's causing the recent increase in the incidence of food allergies and asthma.  I finally decided to let the experts expend the energy to fight out these issues, I just wanted some real life solutions!  I found that many of the sites that are out there expound one viewpoint or another on the causes and what needs to be done and I wanted to build a place that is low stress where parents can come together and share their stories and the things that work for them and their kids without the pressure of advocating a position.  Is it important to follow the debate and make informed decisions?  Absolutely.  But I don't want to be a crusader.  I want to be a mom with happy, healthy kids.  So, breathe a sigh of relief that this is a safe, friendly and supportive place that deals with very serious issues with a healthy dose of humor and reality.

We are new and growing, so there will be lots of new content added here at RFAK all the time.  The main areas that will be helpful to you are the Articles and Resources which consists of "how to" articles I have written based on my experiences with Caroline, my food allergic daughter and then the Blog which chronicles our journey and tells Caroline's Story as it's unfolding.  We welcome your input and comments and look forward to hearing what other parents have found that works for them and their food allergic kids.  I am always learning new things and want to share it with you as much as I want to learn from you!
